Creases along the forehead, frown lines, and a sagging brow can give us the appearance of being older or more tired than we really are, and many women look to skin care products and lifestyle changes to improve areas in the upper face for a more youthful, rested aesthetic. When traditional skin care techniques fail to significantly address the problem, a brow lift may be the best option.
Brow lift surgery can effectively reverse what nature, aging, and exhaustion can do to the areas above the eyes and between the eyebrows and help you achieve your goals with long-lasting results. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Venkata Erella, MD, offers the endoscopic brow lift technique – a minimally invasive procedure which can result in less recovery time than traditional brow lift surgery.

What Is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is designed to significantly rejuvenate areas of the upper face and improve signs of age, fatigue, and stress. With brow lift surgery, Dr. Erella can lift the brows to a higher position and give the region around the eyes a more alert and youthful appearance. A brow lift can also reduce frown lines between the brows, smooth out creases along the forehead, and even improve vision in patients who may be experiencing visual obstruction because of a low brow position.
There are two main types of brow lift surgery: the traditional technique and the endoscopic method. Although both have advantages and can achieve significant results, many patients enjoy the benefits of the endoscopic brow lift technique because it is less invasive and typically involves less recovery time.
Am I a Candidate?
For brow lift surgery, good candidates are typically those who are in reasonably good physical and emotional health, and patients who:
- Are experiencing deep creases and fine lines across the forehead and above the bridge of the nose
- Have a low or asymmetric brow position
- Are experiencing obstructed vision, particularly when looking upward
Dr. Erella will meet with you during an initial consultation to discuss all of your options, and help you decide if the brow lift is the right procedure for your needs.
Endoscopic Brow Lift Procedure
Endoscopic techniques have revolutionized the field of plastic surgery, and brow lift procedures are a terrific example of the benefits these advanced procedures can offer. Endoscopic brow lift surgery is characterized by the use of very small instruments and tiny incisions to perform the procedure.
Dr. Erella will make three to five discrete incisions, well-hidden behind the hairline, and insert a small scope with a video camera under the skin. He will then be able to see the surgical field on a television monitor, giving him a very precise field of vision while performing the procedure. With small surgical instruments, Dr. Erella will partially remove the muscles causing wrinkles and excess skin in the forehead and brow areas. Any residual scarring is so small and well hidden that it is virtually undetectable.
Brow lift surgery is typically performed as an out-patient procedure, and often takes about one to two hours to complete.
Brow Lift Recovery
- Most patients are able to resume normal daily routines within one week.
- There will be some bruising and swelling after brow lift surgery; however, this should fade within two weeks.
- Dr. Erella will advise you to keep your head elevated in the days following brow lift surgery; he will also provide you with eye ointment to prevent dryness in your eyes from occurring while you sleep.
- You should limit activities which may strain your eyes – including computer work, reading, and watching television – for at least one to two weeks after surgery.
Brow Lift Results
Individual results will vary, but many results from brow lift surgery are immediate, and you should notice significant rejuvenation in the treated area. The effects will continue to improve over the next two to three months, when the most optimal effects will become apparent.
