Sagging, inelastic skin on the arms is common but undesirable for those who deal with it. The skin on the upper part of the arms is some of the hardest to tone up, no matter how much exercise you do. With major weight loss, aging, or simply genetics this skin becomes loose and can hang down like a batwing. If this sounds like your arms, no worries, Dr. Erella can help to tone up the arms with an arm lift at Aspira Plastic Surgery.

What is an Arm Lift?

An arm lift, medically referred to as a Brachioplasty, is a type of cosmetic surgery that removes excess skin and fat in the arms. During the surgery, Dr. Erella will remove excess skin and fat, along with tightening and smoothing out the skin so that the arm looks more toned and defined. Patients love this surgery because they are finally able to feel confident in clothes like tank tops and short sleeves without worrying about their arms.

What is an Extended Arm Lift or Brachioplasty?

In a regular arm lift, the incision will end in the armpit area. With an extended arm lift, the incision will be extended along the lateral side of the chest, where excess skin in the lateral chest will be removed to tighten the area further. This is an option that is mostly used for post-bariatric patients who have undergone massive weight loss.

To prepare for an arm lift, it is important to find out if you are a good candidate.

Are You a Good Candidate for an Arm Lift?

To make sure you can safely undergo the arm lift procedure, there a few requirements that you should meet. You should be in good general health, with no underlying health conditions. If you feel that you need to lose weight you should be at or near your ideal weight before surgery. Additionally, if you smoke, you will need to quit before surgery as smoking can cause complications. One of the common smoking-related complications is slow wound healing which increases the possibility of wound breakdown & infection.

What is the Procedure and Recovery Like?

Depending on how much loose skin you have on the arms, the incision type will vary. On the day of your surgery, you will be given general anesthesia to make you comfortable. The surgery is outpatient so you will be able to return home the same day with someone to drive you. An incision will be made on the inside of your arm so it will be less visible. Through this incision, Dr. Erella will remove excess skin and fat while tightening up and repositioning the tissues for an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Afterward, the incisions will be closed, and you will be sent home to start recovery.

A compression garment may be worn after your surgery to help your tissues heal properly. Dr. Erella will provide you with a list of instructions to follow during the recovery period. It is important to avoid strenuous activities, lifting, and moving your arms while healing. During the first week, movements will be limited. After that, you should be able to return to gradual work and resume some light activities. Within three weeks you should be back to your normal activity level.

Sometimes fat can be stubborn and can be difficult to remove with diet and exercise alone. No matter how strict your diet is or how regularly you work out, you may still struggle with lingering pockets of fat hiding your toned contour. Luckily, SmartLipo™ offers a solution, allowing you to remove that last bit of stubborn fat to improve your figure. Dr. Erella not only offers traditional liposuction but SmartLipo™ as well, with skin tightening benefits and a more comfortable recovery process. Here’s what you can expect from your experience with SmartLipo™:

The SmartLipo™ Procedure Process

To understand SmartLipo™, you’ll need to understand traditional liposuction first. This is a highly popular procedure, involving the use of a cannula to break up and remove stubborn fat cells. Liposuction can effectively target areas like the abdomen, hips, thighs, back, upper arms, buffalo hump and even smaller areas like under the chin. SmartLipo offers the same fat removal in the same areas, but with some added benefits!

Instead of using a cannula to break up stubborn fat cells, SmartLipo™ relies on laser energy to melt the fat. The cannula is still used to remove the destroyed fat; however, laser energy requires much less trauma on the body or the tissue, resulting in less bruising, less pain and lesser swelling for a more comfortable recovery process.

Laser-assisted liposuction like SmartLipo™ also offers skin tightening benefits by stimulating the collagen of the skin that traditional liposuction does not. If you struggle with stubborn fat SmartLipo™ might be an effective solution for you. This allows patients to receive optimal contouring improvements in one treatment.

Life after SmartLipo™

There is still some recovery after SmartLipo™, similar to traditional liposuction, however, many patients report a more comfortable process with less swelling, less pain and bruising. Once these side effects diminish, you can enjoy the slimming and tightening results of your procedure. Normal patients can usually resume activity after 3-4 days because it is also done under local anesthesia in the office as an outpatient procedure.

Once the stubborn fat is removed, to ensure long-lasting results, maintain a healthy status with diet and exercise. This is the best way to longevity with your results after SmartLipo™. You’ll want to avoid future weight gain to other areas. This can be done by following a strict diet and regular exercise routine.

Your SmartLipo™ Consultation

The best way to ensure successful, safe and long-lasting results from your SmartLipo procedure is to choose an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Erella. During your SmartLipo™ consultation, Dr. Erella will discuss your concerns and determine if SmartLipo™, traditional liposuction, or other body contouring technique is right for you. To get started on your customized treatment plan, contact our office and schedule your consultation today.

Injectables are a great way to refresh your appearance and smooth out facial lines and wrinkles without the need for surgery. At Aspira Plastic Surgery & Med Spa, we are seeing an increase in the number of younger patients who want injectable treatments like Botox® and fillers in their 20s. Here are some of the reasons why early treatment might be beneficial:

Delaying Wrinkles with Earlier Treatments

Many of our younger patients hear about how neuromodulators like Botox® may delay the onset of wrinkles in the forehead and eye area. Because crow’s feet and smile lines are some of the most obvious wrinkles on the face, using Botox® is very appealing. Lines in the upper part of your face form because the muscle contractions pinch the skin, so the idea is that early Botox injections protect the skin from these wrinkle-inducing effects of facial expressions.

Boosting Collagen Before It Depletes

Collagen volume loss is a natural part of the aging process and is partly responsible for the development of fine lines, and wrinkles. This loss of collagen and volume begins around your late 20’s and continues to decline as you age. With collagen and volume-boosting injectables like Juvederm®, patients can maintain their collagen and volume levels early on to prevent the development of wrinkles around the nose, mouth, lips, and chin.

Determining Your Skin Age

Most people focus on a person’s chronological age when determining the right time to start injectable treatments, but skin age is a more important factor. Each person’s skin ages at a different pace based on lifestyle choices, sun exposure, genetics, and more. Some people in their late 20’s who avoid sunlight and do not smoke, for example, may have younger-looking skin than their peers who spend a great deal of time outdoors. As such, there really is no hard and fast rule for what chronological age someone should start Botox® or fillers.

Austin, Texas is a very trendy part of the country. Although it is known for its conservative values, the people who live in Austin are concerned about the way that they look. Austin is quickly becoming a center of business and commerce in Texas. This means that business-minded individuals from around the state, around the country, and around the world are moving to the area. Competition is high, and in order to do your best in your work environment, you need to look your best. This is just one of the reasons why many Austin, Texas residents are very interested in learning about plastic surgery. They understand the benefits that plastic surgery can mean for them.

First and foremost, plastic surgery can improve your confidence. For this to work, you need to have plastic surgery for the right reasons. If you get plastic surgery because you want to please someone else or because someone else is constantly telling you that you would look better in a particular way, then you’re just setting yourself up for disaster. But if you look at yourself in the mirror and you see something that you just don’t like and then you make the decision to use cosmetic surgery to repair it, this is likely going to lead to improved self-confidence. The better you look, the happier you are with your appearance and the more confidence you’re going to have to try new things in life.

Interestingly, some forms of cosmetic surgery can improve your physical health. Many people don’t think about that when they talk about cosmetic surgery. They focus solely on the aesthetic benefits that come from it. But when we think about something like cosmetic gynecology, this can offer both aesthetic and functional benefits.

Researchers have seen a link between cosmetic procedures and improved mental health. A lot of people are battling with anxiety, especially in social situations. If there is something about your appearance that you don’t like and you are already prone to anxiety, every time a person looks at you or every time a person does not look at you, you’re going to think it’s because of that feature of your appearance that you hate. This can lead to even more anxiety, which causes you to shy away from certain social settings. However, if plastic surgery is used to correct your perceived imperfection, you are likely to be less anxious in social environments.

In the business world, study after study has shown that the more attractive you are, the more successful you can be. Generally speaking, an attractive real estate agent is going to make more money than one who is not perceived to be as attractive.
