Mommy makeovers are highly sought-after procedures because they combine multiple procedures in one to address the various concerns that many women face after childbirth. The surgical techniques used allow women to address their major concerns about the changes they have undergone in their breasts and abdomen regions. Though this is a time and money saver for those who want multiple procedures, the recovery can be extensive. Dr. Erella and the team at Aspira Plastic Surgery will walk you through the recovery steps and postoperative care instructions so that it is as easy as possible.

What’s Included in a Mommy Makeover?

Most common procedures that are involved in the mommy makeover are:

Other procedures may be included during your personalized mommy makeover surgery depending on your goals.

The Mommy Makeover Recovery Timeline

The recovery timeline we set out is very generalized. Each patient will have a different mommy makeover recovery experience dependent on the procedures that are chosen, their health, and how closely they follow postoperative care instructions. The initial recovery for mommy makeover lasts between seven and ten days, with long term recovery lasting several weeks to a couple of months.

Dr. Erella considers this surgery outpatient unless it is extensive and lets patients recover in the comfort of their own home. He will give detailed care instructions for you to follow while you are healing. While the length may fluctuate, the mommy makeover recovery timeline includes:

Week 1

Patients will have their incisions bandaged and will need to wear a surgical garment that manages the swelling, and holds the tissues together. During this time, patients will be on prescribed pain medications. Bruising, swelling, and inflammation will start to occur during this time. The initial side effects will subside within a week but will still be present for a few weeks. Any alcohol consumption or use of tobacco will need to be stopped during the recovery.

Week 2-3

Most patients can start routine activities into their day like walking. After 2-3 weeks you will most likely be able to return to work. Strenuous activity should still be limited. Swelling may still present but have noticeably subsided. Compression garments will still need to be worn at this time. Alcohol consumption and cigarettes are still not permitted at this point.

Weeks 3-6

You should include build-up light exercise in your daily life once you are cleared by Dr. Erella. The side effects may still be present but only noticeable to you. Compression garments usually come off around 4 weeks.

Week 6 and After

You will be mostly healed at this time. You will notice the changes in your body and begin to enjoy your mommy makeover results. Exercise and regular daily activities can be resumed at this point. You may still continue to notice improvement over the next four months.

It’s 4:30 AM, and your alarm is sounding. It is reminding you that it is time to get up and go to the gym. You have been following the same fitness routine for the past few years. You exercise religiously. You opt for healthy choices instead of junk food. Doughnuts, soda and other sugary drinks are not on your agenda. Instead, you focus on solely drinking water. You would think that with all the sacrifices that you’re making, you would have abs that would land you on the cover of a health and fitness magazine. Unfortunately, just the opposite is the case. Even though you are at your ideal weight, your midsection is still full of bulges. You would give just about anything you could to have a tight stomach. If this describes your situation, you may be interested in learning more about the power of a tummy tuck.

Why You Should Consider a Tummy Tuck

Consider a tummy tuck if you have done just about everything that you can to get a thin and trim stomach, but you still are not getting the results that you want. Maybe you are recovering from a pregnancy, or maybe you were overweight but have lost the excess pounds thanks to a diet and exercise routine. Despite your hard work, you still have excess skin and fat that refuses to go away. The flat stomach you want doesn’t seem like an option.

Liposuction will provide some benefits, but it only works to help you get rid of unwanted fat. If you really want to take your cosmetic surgery to the next level and want to tighten your muscles and get rid of excess skin, then a tummy tuck is the way you should go.

How Does the Tummy Tuck Procedure Work?

The procedure works by finding a tailored solution for each patient based on their needs and goals. The procedure is designed to get rid of unwanted fat as well as tighten up loose skin. It can also tighten the muscles along the abdominal wall. Many patients choose to combine this procedure with liposuction or breast augmentation, providing a complete makeover for their midsection.

If you have excess abdominal skin and stubborn pockets of fat that leave you feeling less than stellar about your appearance, or if you’re not happy with the way that your body looks even after you’ve lost a great deal of weight, then learning more about a tummy tuck could be worthwhile.

This procedure has also provided many benefits for those who have loose skin and weakened abdominal muscles after giving birth.

If you’ve been consistently dieting and exercising to no avail, a tummy tuck could be the solution you’ve been seeking. The number one feature people complain about when it comes to losing weight is their belly. No one wants to have a flabby abdomen. This is why when you go to the gym, you’re going to always see a group of people who are doing crunches or some other form of abdominal exercise. With aging and with changes in life such as pregnancy, your abdomen changes in ways that cannot be undone with just diet and exercise. Sometimes you need a little bit of help to get your abdomen back to the way it was when you were younger. This is where a tummy tuck comes in.

A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that has steadily gained popularity every year. It is designed to remove excessive skin and some fat from your mid-area, while at the same time tightening up your skin and your abdominal muscles. For individuals who are good candidates, this procedure can be life-changing. It can give you the confidence to be out in public in your swimwear, and it can make you like what you see when you look in the mirror.

The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for a tummy tuck is to talk with our cosmetic surgeon during your initial consultation at our office in Austin. During this consultation, our surgeon is going to look at your skin’s elasticity. He is also going to look at the strength and flexibility of your abdominal muscles.

Some things that you can take into consideration to determine if you are a good tummy tuck candidate is whether or not you have extra skin, muscle weakness or extra fat on your abdomen. You will need to have at least some of these things to see any benefit from a tummy tuck. You also need to look at your health. You need to be in relatively good shape and in relatively good health in order to qualify for this procedure.

Most women in Austin who have had one or multiple pregnancies are good candidates for this procedure. Pregnancy can lead to muscle weakness, loose skin and unwanted fat. After childbirth, the muscles in the skin may not return to their previous form. A tummy tuck is a procedure that helps mothers get their pre-pregnancy body again.

Some individuals get a tummy tuck just to respond to the normal abdominal sagging caused by age. Other people have lost a lot of weight either because of diet or because of gastric surgery. Weight loss is the number one reason why men have a tummy tuck. They have excess amounts of fat and skin that hang around their sides and their back.

tummy tuck

No matter how many times you work out every week or how many salads you order for lunch, you can still have trouble with toning your stomach. It’s a problem area for so many men and women. You are not alone. This especially holds true if you have lost a great deal of weight already and have reached your goal weight, but you still have excess skin hanging on. Your skin has been stretched to the limit and it just doesn’t want to snap back to where it should be. A tummy tuck can help you to take your body exactly where you want it to go.

How Can a Tummy Tuck Help You?

You may have thought that the only reason to have a tummy tuck was to get rid of extra fat hanging around your midsection. While this procedure can eliminate stubborn pockets of fat that tend to cling to your stomach, it can do so much more. It can tighten the underlying muscles that may have become so loose over time that they won’t respond to your exercises. A tummy tuck can also eliminate any excess skin that you may have around your stomach, trimming you down to the size that you want to be.

What Can You Expect During a Tummy Tuck?

The details of each procedure vary from patient to patient since each individual is unique. However, during a typical tummy tuck, excess skin is removed. Our experienced plastic surgeon may also remove excess fat. Special tools can be used to tighten the muscles. Finally, the skin will be pulled down to tighten the stomach. The end result is that flat stomach that you have been working so hard to achieve. You’ll finally be rid of that bothersome skin that was hanging down before.

Continue to be diligent about being active and eating a healthy diet in order to maintain your toned stomach. A tummy tuck is not intended as a weight loss measure, but rather helps you to sculpt your figure when you have reached the weight that you want to be.
