How Does Dr. Erella Perform Liposuction?
Liposuction is almost always performed safely under local anesthesia. Dr. Erella is widely known for his expertise in “awake” procedures, which removes the need for going under general anesthesia. Dr. Erella will discuss which anesthesia option is best suited for you when you meet with him in a consultation.
To begin the procedure, Dr. Erella will give you an oral medication to help you relax after marking the areas for surgery. During the operation, Dr. Erella makes tiny incisions that allow him to insert a thin tube called a cannula into the targeted areas. He will then infiltrate a sterile, specially prepared liquid anesthetic called Tumescent to the treatment area. Afterward, he inserts a power assisted small Liposuction cannula to loosen targeted fat to suction out.
The whole procedure takes anywhere from under an hour to three hours, depending on the number and size of the areas. After completion, Dr. Erella and his surgical team will fit a compression garment to the treatment area to prevent swelling and support your body’s new contours.
Lipoabdominoplasty (Combining Liposuction With a Tummy Tuck )
Liposuction assisted with laser energy liquefies unwanted fat before Dr. Erella removes it from the treatment site. Laser liposuction offers another option to complement tummy tucks and neck and arm lifts.
While conventional liposuction is the most popular cosmetic surgery in the United States for effectively reshaping multiple areas by removing stubborn fat pads, it does not tighten loose skin. In some patients, laser-assisted liposuction on the abdomen could reduce 30 to 50% of what tummy tuck removes. In addition, laser Liposuction can effectively liquefy fat for removal and offers non-surgical skin tightening.
Liposuction 360 encompasses the entire midsection—front and back. Dr. Erella typically performs 360 liposuctions to achieve maximum effect. If he limits liposuction to the front only, you may not achieve your desired waistline. So, viewing and treating the body from both sides helps you to achieve optimal body sculpting.
360-degree liposuction, or circumferential liposuction, employs the same techniques for body sculpting as traditional liposuction but addresses the entire midsection (front, back, and side) in one surgical session.
Awake liposuction is a faster, safer, lower-cost way to benefit from 360 Liposuction. Dr. Erella performs awake liposuction by performing small incisions and infusing a tumescent solution into the targeted area. This solution combines saline; lidocaine, an anesthetic; and epinephrine, which reduces bleeding and bruising. Next, Dr. Erella employs a cannula for suction-assisted aspiration to contour the body and remove excess fat. Awake liposuction is appropriate for large-volume liposuction.
What Can I Expect in my Liposuction Recovery?
Patients usually find that their liposuction recovery will be very smooth. Dr. Erella’s precision and techniques allow for a quick recovery, with most patients returning to work in just three to four days.
Soreness is common for two to three days, but Dr. Erella will provide medications and garments to help relieve any discomfort. Swelling will gradually improve over a period of a few weeks. Patients will usually be able to start exercising in two weeks. Each patient heals differently, but the results are well worth it in the end. You should see your results once the swelling is down which can take a few weeks after surgery.
What is the Cost of Liposuction
The cost of liposuction varies widely depending on where you live, who is performing the surgery, and the extent of the treatment area. Generally, it may range from a few thousand to several thousand dollars or more. If you are interested in liposuction to address one or more areas of stubborn fat, call Aspira Plastic Surgery & Med Spa for a consultation. Once you and Dr. Erella have discussed your goals, our team will provide you with a cost estimate. Because the cost is so variable, a consultation is really the only way to know how much the procedure will cost for what you have in mind.
Dr. Erella and our team have worked with numerous cosmetic surgery patients over the years. We know that cost plays a significant role in your decision whether to have liposuction. We work with CareCredit and United Medical Credit to offer you the opportunity to apply for financing. These companies offer low-interest payment plans to qualified applicants. If you qualify, you can pay for liposuction gradually instead of all at once. Ask our experienced staff for more information.

What is Liposuction Recovery Like? Is it Painful?
During the procedure, you will feel nothing while under local anesthesia. Soreness is more common for two to three days after surgery and will diminish steadily. Taking the prescribed meds and keeping a compression garment makes it much easier to recover. You will be able to return to daily activities in 3-4 days.
